It was kind of creepy because I had all the taps in the house slightly turned on (apparently that helps?), and just all of a sudden I could hear the pipes all over the house making that groaning noise they make when water is running. But it was worth it to have water back.

+ My parents bough my brother A HOUSE. I mean, technically he'll be renting it from them for the next three years while he's at school, but it's still a huge thing.

+ It's SO FREAKING COLD. It went down to thirty degrees below zero last night. Do you know what that means? The pipes are frozen and we have NO WATER. We called our landlord and he had a guy come by to look at it, and apparently there is no water coming into the house at all. The city lines must be frozen somewhere. It's just as cold today, if not colder, so I don't know what's going to happen. There's nothing coming out of our kitchen faucet or the shower, or the hot side of the upstairs bathroom, but a little comes out of the cold side. I filled up a bunch of pots so we can function for the next few days, and I can shower at the gym, but it's pretty horrible. GO AWAY, WINTER.

Huh. So it's been a rather, shall we say, eventful week over here.

My darling, wonderful roommate and her boyfriend broke up on Monday. Apparently it is break up season. If you are in a relationship: Watch out!

It's very hard for her, obviously, but hard for me too, because my own breakup is still so fresh. I mean, at least we have each other? I don't know. It's hard.

We went to a Fantasia party on Wednesday, which both cheered us up and made us sadder. If you don't know what a Fantasia party is... well imagine a tupperwear party, but for sex toys (and spa stuff).

At first she was thinking that maybe she didn't want to go, but I figured, if there was ever a need for that kind of stuff, it's now. haha.

It was a lot of fun (despite making me miss Mike a lot), the woman who showed all the products was hilarious. We're actually going to have one at our place in about a month (just before Valentine's day, which is suddenly very fitting).

There was one point where my roommate got a little emotional, and had to leave the group. Luckily that came just at the time when we were having a short break, so I went to console her and try to cheer her up. Unfortunately, the girl who was hosting started giving some people a tour of the place, and they were about to come into the bedroom where we were hiding out. The party was the first time I had met her, but I didn't want my roomie to be embarrassed by randoms walking in on her crying, so I blocked the door. I couldn't think of a reason why they shouldn't come in besides, "well, she's crying in here," which would be incredibly awkward, so I just said, "uhh... occupied." hahaha. Luckily she picked up on it, but apparently as they were walking away, one of the girls asked "Are they lesbians?" hahahahaha. Not yet.

+ Ok, my flist practically exploded with joy over last night's HIMYM, but absolutely no one is talking about The Big Bang Theory. What's the deal with that? I love Sheldon and Penny's relationship so much. They're hilarious.

Huh. Well today is my three year LJ-versary. I was going to make a long post about the history of my fannish involvement, and what have you, but then I just kind of... didn't?

In my defense I was working on my grad school applications. It is surprisingly hard to write 500-1000 words about why you want to go to grad school and why you think you'd be a good fit for any particular school.

I will say that I'm happy I did sign up for Neopets all those years ago (who else had one? fess up), which led me to Harry Potter, which led me to Sailor Moon, which led me to Inuyasha, Tortall, Voyager, Harry Potter (yes, again), and eventually Prison Break. The fandom that got me participating.

I'm happy to know all of you :)

+ So yesterday on my way home from campus, I completed a very important yearly ritual. I slipped on the icy sidewalk and wiped out. And I mean I wiped out. It wasn't one of those falls where you feel it coming and you can not quite stop it from happening. I was walking along and then BAM. On the ground.

My roommate is eithe a better person than I am, or could sense that it really hurt (cause it really, really hurt), and didn't laugh at me. I got home and realised I skinned my knee, because I am approximately eight years old. This morning it's all red around where I skinned it, surrounded by a nice purple bruise. Fun times.

What I want to know is, do you laugh at people when you see them fall? Because I totally do, and I don't even feel bad about it (I expect people to laugh at me when I fall, so I figure it's even). The worst thing about falling (even worse than the pain) is how embarrassing it is. I still laugh. Hey, I never claimed to be a good person.

Can you believe it's 2009 already? I swear, sometimes it still feels like 1999 was only a few years ago, not, you know, TEN. I think someday when we tell our kids what year we were born, they're going to think we're ANCIENT, being born in a different century. CRAZY.

Despite a heartbreaking ending, 2008 was a pretty good year for me. I fell in love with Bones, Chuck, Gossip Girl, Life, the Jonas Brothers. Met a lot of cool people because of them, too. Fell out of love with Prison Break. Heath Ledger died. Got fired. Got my wisdom teeth out. Saw John Mayer and Carrie Underwood live. Got audited AGAIN. Had a car crash right outside my house. Participated in Earth hour. The Conservatives won the election (for now, at least). Went to Ottawa. Wrote 25 stories and 10 drabbles. Broke up, got my heart broken, etc. etc.

I think that's more than enough to keep me busy, haha. But at least this way I can check back and see how I'm doing, remind myself to keep trying.

Another thing I'd like to do this year is get to know all of you better. Do you do instant messaging? And if so what do you use? Right now I have msn, but I could get something else as well.

My favorite fic this year (of my own):
I think either Read Between the Lines or Delicate, which are both Bones fic that I wrote almost directly after intense episodes (where Booth got shot and we found out his father was abusive). They're also two of my best received fics as well.

My least favorite:
but it would be ok. Not my least favourite, but the one I'm least satisfied with. I really like the second half, but for some reason, the first bit just wouldn't work as well as I'd hoped it would.

Most successful fic:
4:1 Say Japan Sucks, Read Between the Lines and Worse than the Breakup Beard

Fic most under appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Cops and Robbers (which suprised me because Casey is a pretty popular character) or Lonely All the Time (which didn't suprise me because Freaks and Geeks was a long time ago)

Most fun fic to write:
Therapy Session (hahah, Sweets!) or Worse than the Breakup Beard (haha, poor Marshall).

Hardest fic to write:
but it would be ok. It just didn't want to work for me.

The things I've learnt this year...
That I can actually produce a decent amount of stories, that people like my stories, that I need to push myself harder and write more.

Things to work on in 2009:
The rest of the holiday fic (hopefully by the end of January). More Freaks and Geeks (I want to try Nick/Kim), a Robin-centred epic, more about Booth and his life, more Life fic (I have an idea of a Jennifer one), a story about Hodgins and why he's so angry. Lots of HIMYM, try my hand at different pairings.
